Tips to save electricity
General
Co-ordinate yourself- Instead of you reading paper in ur room with lights n fans on, can join ur family who is watching TV in hall, n ask ur mother to do the same while chopping vegetables to avoid excess use of lights. This not only helps to minimize Ur electricity consumption, it also helps us to spend more time together with family &improves relationship.
When it comes to wall, paint it with light / bright colours to avoid electrical lights in day time.
Switch off lights and fans when you are out of room or house. Reduce high watt bulbs where less light is needed.
Get good stabilizers installed for TV, refrigerator, Air conditioner : this not only helps protecting your valuables during voltage fluctuation, also helps to minimize the power consumption.( Air-Conditioner on low voltage not only decrease its cooling capability , also consume more power.)
Don’t forget to switch off the main switch even if you have switched off the equipment with the remote like Television or Home theatre system.
Don’t run all at once-running water heater, grinder, water motor, etc at once will cause fluctuations and extra consumption.
While listening to music alone, it is better use stereo headphones instead of hi-fi speakers.
Try solar system for water heater, inverters etc. You can also use the power saving kits which are available which can reduce the power consumption till 20-25%.
Illumination- Replace high watt bulbs/lights with CFL, especially for smaller rooms like bathrooms and toilets.
Refrigerator- Regular defrosting reduces power consumption. Place the fridge atleast a feet distance from wall .
Washing machine- Run washing machine or dryer with preferred loads. Not only overloading will cause excess power consumption but also running the machine quite often with smaller loads does the same.
Air conditioner- buy branded energy efficient Air-conditioner with temperature control, keep the doors and windows closed. Clean A.C. filter regularly. Shut your Air conditioner when ever it is not needed.
Cell phones- Don't charge your mobiles overnight. few hours of charging is enough. overnight charging not only leads to unwanted usage of electricity but also damages the phone.Try using USB port of computer for charging cellphones when you work on computer. Also the other option would be charging your phone in car.
Computers/laptops- make sure you left the monitor to automatically shut off or switch to standby mode when idle Use the “balanced” mode in “power options”. Make sure your laptop is free from dust and work preferably in cool place to avoid excess heat . because excess heat makes the fan to consume more power inorder to spin faster to reduce the temperature.
When working on a laptop, you can use a USB lamp (5V DC) instead of regular 40W or 60W bulb.
